UPDATE ON 10/16:
The Charlottesville Police Department spoke with CATEC and CCS officials earlier today to confirm that they have identified the individual who visited our school earlier this week. Please see the update to their statement here: https://www.charlottesville.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=2310 .  Thanks again for your support. We hope this incident assures you that we will continue to follow our visitor and safety protocols.

Dear Cville Schools community --

We wanted to make you aware that on Tuesday, a visitor came to CATEC to make an inquiry about a student. The visitor displayed a badge but showed no further identification. Following protocols, CATEC staff did not supply information about the student to the visitor. They asked the man to leave (which he did), and then they reported the incident to the Charlottesville Police Department, the student’s family, and associated school officials. The student does not attend Charlottesville City Schools.

Police have reached out to area law enforcement and government agencies to attempt to identify the male and the reason for the interaction. At this time, the male has not been identified, and no area agency has been able to verify that he is a law enforcement officer.

The police recommend that schools continue to follow their usual visitor protocols, daily routines, and standard safety procedures.
