No Emissions, No Problem: Two Electric School Buses Join CCS Fleet
The first two battery-powered electric school buses have been added to Charlottesville’s City Schools’ pupil transportation fleet, marking an important step forward in the City of Charlottesville’s commitment to cleaner transportation. CCS students have been catching a ride to school on the new electric buses since January.

“Sustainability and environmental awareness are priorities for Charlottesville City Schools,” said Charlottesville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Royal Gurley. “We’re very proud to be working with the City to get children to and from school without fossil fuels.”
Charlottesville was able to integrate electric school buses into the fleet through funding assistance from two partners. The City received $409,968 through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean School Bus program to purchase the buses. The chargers for the new school buses were provided by Dominion Energy’s Electric School Bus Infrastructure program.
“We’re thrilled to have these electric buses serving Charlottesville students,” said Tray Biasiolli, Climate Program Specialist with the City. “These buses have no tailpipe emissions, so it’s much healthier for the students and drivers.”
